Women in the Visual Arts

The Women in the Visual Arts Biennial produces and brings together initiatives that make women's talent visible and that have gender as the axis of reflection, debate and creation.

The BMAV, in its fifth edition, strengthens and reinforces the objectives proposed in its previous calls to make visible, support and disseminate the work, artistic, curatorial and research creation of women at national and international level.

The Women in the Visual Arts Biennial brings together throughout the year initiatives whose main theme or objective is the visibility of women in the field of visual arts from a feminist perspective, committed to the return to society and good practices.

The Biennial works in an open format that is not concentrated in a single physical or temporal space, that explores other alternative models to promote transversal works and formats in process that highlight and make visible the position of women in society and in contemporary creation.
Again, this year we contribute to the production of different proposals, selected from a public call, in addition to the invited proposals, promoted by institutions and entities, whose dissemination we support from MAV.

We work with a methodology based on Sorority and Reciprocity as tools for collaboration and dialogue to make visible initiatives in which gender is the axis of creation and focus of reflection and debate, convinced that there is still much to seek, tell and reveal.

This Biennial is MAV’s contribution to a complex world context in need of change that is committed to another way of relating and integrating "the other" in an open, diverse and global concept of citizenship, where women have much to say and do.
